A master class in egg sucking from the government

The Department of Transport has decided to hector the nation on the co2 emissions from vehicles, all under the 'drive smarter' heading.

The tips include such radical ideas as keeping tyres inflated to the correct pressure and not over-revving engines. The list smacks of a 70s oil shock era 'save money on your motoring' leaflet, and I would not be at all surprised if this was a dusted off and re-worked campaign. I find it a little depressing that questionable science is considered more of a hook than money saving when targeting the public.

Rather helpfully the DoT has given site visitors the option to click vote on the quality of the ads. I voted 'awful' and the average fell, so I am guessing that the site is not hugely popular at the moment. The DoT has also been kind enough to give me finger pointing privileges by emblazoning 'Embargoed until 00.01 Sunday 11 March 2007' across the top of the relevant web page, suggesting to me that all of this was finalised on Friday at the latest, and so through denying us its wisdom then, has led to over 15000 needless tons of co2 vanishing into the ether.

This is indeed a typical waste of resources. it has all the hallmarks of the classic penpushers mantra. it re-works old work, it is poorly writeen and based on weak science. Truly a temple to failure.

Having said that, I read the telegraph this morning and wow are the new policy ideas on green taxes bad from the Tories. Totally incoherent and mis-targeted. My faith weakens....

I too clicked Awful. They look like those old posters you see from WWII. Loose Lips Sink Ships.

CU - Dave's a PR man. A bandwagon man. It doesn't have to make sense; it just has to be trendy. I never thought I would think anyone was less fit to be a prime minister than Tony Blair, but I think Dave's cracked it.
