Re-inventing the wheel
The humble road cat's eye is a rather splendid thing - cheap, needing little maintenance and generally doing its job rather well, yes? The Other One from 'Top Gear' reckons, 'The Catseye is what great design is all about. Simple, functional, and beautiful. And on top of that, this little block of iron and rubber has probably done more to save lives on the road than anything since'.
However, up in Geordie land, they have decided that a stretch of road needs solar powered cat's eyes at the cost of 150 large (admittedly part of a wider road improvement project) because the road is 'busy...unlit and has several turns'. Sounds like an awful lot of roads to me.
