French in 'actual belief in democracy' shocker
Further to the French mayor offering up his candidate godfathering to the highest bidder, the debate on godfathering continues across the ditch, and to his everlasting credit, Sarko has declared that he will fight for Le Pen and Olivier Besancenot of the Trotskyite Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire to get the numbers to allow them to stand in the first round of the election.
That is pretty encouraging, but still more so is that the French nation is largely in agreement:
72% think Sarko is right, to 6% against (and presumably 22% are mouth breathers who did not understand the question). Looked at by allegiance, Socialist sympathisers showed the least enthusiasm (fancy...) at 61%, Bayrou's lot 86%, Sarko's lot 89% and, erm, 78% of FN etc supporters. Maybe they could not find a sufficiency of self-confessed Trots to give any figures for them.

Have to say I'm amazed; I was expecting a sort of 'Sarko supports fascists' backlash. Have you seen the latest poll in Le Monde? Bayrou has caught right up with Sarko and Sego. First round is going to be very interesting (politically speaking, that is. I actually wish it would happen tomorrow - I'm getting slightly bored of the candidates and there's still two months to go).
