Hollywood nimbys

As one would expect, they are quite spectacularly nimby-esque, and Martin Sheen and Pierce Brosnan have rallied to a protest against the building of liquefied natural gas terminal some 14 miles off the coast of Malibu, which just happens to be where they live. The 'debate' is framed in terms of what it will do to the environment, rather than the effect on property values or showing up if peered at with a decent pair of binoculars, and the egregiously dishonest allegation that it will be a terrorist target.

Coming up later, Chip Goodyear of BHP Biliton (and wasn't Broken Hill Proprietary a great name for a company?) slams Brosnan's 'Seraphim Falls' and Sheen's 'Bobby' for poor cinematography and cliched dialogue.

(An energy correspondent writes)

A rather recondite topic, I realise ... but US nimby-ism on LNG terminals is pretty egregious (and very damaging to an essentially clean industry). UK nimbys are generally quite hot off the blocks on most issues, but LNG terminals - bring 'em on, no-one gives a stuff, & quite right too.

In fact, only in Italy does anyone else raise objections to LNG, and that's to do with nefarious 'local politics'...

Who Will ? Shock !

We have the Archway site in endless Consultation and there are ,predictably enough a herd of " Community voices who wish for low scale incremental developement and are agains thing more or less at random"
The leader of the Forum is a lovely posh women called Kate who lives yards from the site . I went with the local Conservatives to say hallo once and the palpable atmosphere of Nimbyism was suffocating.

I like NIMBY. .

Not anywhere at all would be better but its a start...

That is my policy

Off topic, but for the benefit of The Hitch my favourite company name has to be that of a builders located in the village of Battle, just outside of Hastings.

His company was called William the Concreter.

To the best of my knowledge he is still trading.
