Japan gets a Defence Minister

For the first time since 1945, oddly enough, and even more oddly, the 'People's Republic' of China is not too upset about it either. It should be noted that Japanese military preparations have not been restricted to preparing signs saying 'we surrender' in various languages these last 60 odd years, but it is a fairly hefty upgrade in governmental terms.

A friend of mine considers that the rot set in in these parts when the War Office, the Admiralty and the Air Ministry etc merged to form the Ministry of Defence in '64 . It looks to have been Douglas-Home's doing, but I cannot lay hands on the evidence one way or another.

I think it only prudent that japan should look to defend itself in the future.

Perhaps we should have a ministry of defence too rather than the current ministry of propoganda and financial mismanagement?

Except a lot more of these 'Japan gets BLANK' in the next few years.

It's already one of the greatest military spenders in the world - and in Japan the difference between 'defence' and 'self-defence' will be seen as quite significant.
