Prepare to be outraged

From the Standard:

"Attorney General Lord Goldsmith is refusing to stand down from advising the Crown Prosecution Service on whether Tony Blair should face charges in the cash for peerages inquiry. The former Labour donor, a close ally of the Prime Minister, is resisting mounting pressure to show the process is independent by stepping aside. Ken MacDonald, the director of public prosecutions, has already declared that he will take no part in the case because he is a former legal colleague of Mr Blair's wife Cherie".

Even Harman thinks he should absent himself. It is a long time since I studied law, but it is absolutely bog basic that "A person who makes a decision should be unbiased and act in good faith. He therefore cannot be one of the parties in the case, or have an interest in the outcome. This is expressed in the latin maxim, nemo judex in sua causa: "no man is permitted to be judge in his own cause". (Source).

The AG's job is in Blair's gift. Nothing more to add, really.

Already outraged, and blogged twice in as many days. One suspects that the Hanging Sadaam newswas a good day to bury bad news- Blair on ID cards today,Goldsmith may or may not stand aside depending which minister is speaking, the Mid terms are tomorrow, so Blair will be out with his shovel tomorrow as well. I don't think the BBC is reporting any of this as yet.

My outrage is somewhat muted as the original crime , is not , in my view, much of a crime .
I was reading last night in cash nexus that in proportonal terms the funding of parties has dropped a lot compared to the late 19th century. How should they get the money they need . Taxes?I think I prefer handing out badges and couldn`t care less . Does it matter ?

Also the Conservative party are implicated in the system and cross party problems are not ammo that fits my gun.Still give a me an hour or so and outrage will be in place
Blair on ID cards is sort of convincing but in the context if all the other assualts on freedom ,it is less so .The DT Blair ex cathedra has many mendacious refereneces to immigration and crime which are not problems caused by the lack of ID cards . Slimy happy people

G - Whoops. Sounds like I'm a bit behind the curve on this one. Not a sniff of this story at the BBC that I can find. /Fancy/....

N - Fair point. I think candidates themselves paid for the beer and skittles back then.

I don't care what they do as long as it doesn't end in state funding as that will merely serve to reinforce the pathetic leaders we currently have.samll parties will be effectively barred forever.

which is what Zanu lab ands Dave want

I sell we auction honours in the ssame we auctioned radio bands.
I only have to imagine saying the phrase "Sir David beckham" to know how little these baubles are worth and how pathetic are many of the holders of them.
"Sir" Phillip green also makes me break into a smile.
"sir" alex ferguson

Yes, I'd go along with that, as I think the entire honours system is unreformable, and the old bang shoot should be scrapped short of long service awards and those for courage.

Whatever one thinks about Enoch Powell, he refused a life peerage as he did not regard them as legitimate, and hung on for a hereditary peerage, knowing he would not get one/
