John McCain - naval aviator

I was doing a little channel hopping just now and caught Maude's introduction of Senator McCain to conference. A nice touch that he referrred to McCain thus rather than as a pilot, as said naval aviators are very particular about that designation. I know this from having read 'The Right Stuff' far too many times. There's a tale of an aviator in the 'nam getting shot down and and panicking over the radio only to be told by the flight leader (?), 'Shut up and die like an aviator'....
