Give a boy a bad name

I read 'Freakonomics' a while back - not a bad light read, but not as good as the reviews made out. Anyway, one of the more interesting pieces of research covered first names, and as a follow up the authors have blogged some anecdotal evidence on Texan felons with 'Wayne' as a middle name. Detail here.

To that list I suppose we should add the Chicago serial killer John Wayne Gacy (and to whom I attribute my mild coulrophobia, because of seeing a photo of him in a clown rig).

I wonder how The Duke would feel about his pseudo namesakes, then again he must have (in character) done a fair amount of unlawful killing and maybe even a spot of horse rustliing.

Ever seen 'The Searchers'?

I've always hated clowns.

Blogger Croydonian said... 4:45 pm

With me it isn't so much hatred as deep unease.

Bizarrely enough, if you google clown phobia, it brings up a series of ads for treatment. Erm, is this such a big issue for anyone that they would seek a cure?

Yes, I would concur - a sense of unease when I was a child. But as an adult, I loathe them. They're aggressive, like mimes. But mimes aren't threatening, and I always think that clowns are.

And they are about as funny as cancer.

Peter - I'll take it on trust....

Maybe they're seeking their inner clown.

"Peter - I'll take it on trust...."

Me too.

V - exactly. There's nowt so queer as other people's predilections. And I picked that up from Krafft-Ebing, long before the advent of the net, which just confirmed it.

Returning, ahem, to PG rated comments, I decided I'd not just seen it all, but heard it, when I encountered a Taoist rapper in Boulder. Oy vey.
