The UK's 2008 EU farming subsidy millionaires

There are 16 UK organisations that trousered over a million pounds last year from the EU, led by Czarnikow Group Limited, which leads the table with a cool £6,751,558.50 from 'market schemes'. Czarnikow would appear to dabble in sugar.

KG Growers Ltd of Kent picked up £3,170,052.01, G's Growers Ltd of Ely £2,908,857.66 and Berryworld Producer Organisation of Broxbourne £1,943,996.51.

I've also had a look at the French equivalent site, and unless my eyes deceive me, we are rank amateurs at this subsidy lark. Doux, a French concern, is to be found in Western Brittany, and raked in - I am NOT making this up - €62,824,449.59. Doux looks to be to chickens what Bernard Matthews is to turkeys.

As to the Emerald Isle, Abbott Irl made a comparatively derisory €680,898.95.

The reigning Belgian heavyweight champions are European Fruit Co-operation of Sint-Truiden with €7,829,726.08

Those with the language skills can see what the Latvians, Slovenes, Swedes etc are up to here.

Blogger Letters From A Tory said... 8:46 am

And that's your taxes and my taxes as well. What possible justification is there for handing over hundred of millions to these companies? Leave them to fend for themselves, I say.
