The DPRK update. It is a good one. Really.
In which Kim Il Jong goes to the zoo, the DPRK clasps the soya bean to its collective breast, and a list of rather unappetising food stuffs is reeled off:
And
"He highly praised the constructers for having built a splendid structure and sent thanks to them, noting that the zoo reconstructed on an expansion basis was successfully designed in a peculiar manner and the best quality was ensured in its construction....In order to build the zoo better under a long-term plan it is necessary to increase the species of animals and consolidate its material and technical foundation to serve its purpose, he added. It is important for the zoo to solve the feed problem and establish a veterinary and anti-epidemic system as it breeds a lot of animals of diverse species, he noted, underscoring the need to take thorough-going measures for providing feed suited to the diversity of species of animals and, at the same time, build modern veterinary hospitals".
And
"It has been scientifically confirmed that domesticated soybean today was derived from it. Hence it has been proved that the home of soybean is Korea and some areas around it where Koreans lived".
And
Mine's flour food with rice gruel please, but how does one increase traditional dishes, eh?
And
"Flour food, sea cucumber dish and meat dish were proved as time-honored national foods peculiar to Korea. The sort of traditional dishes is ever increasing including bean food, rice gruel mixed with red-bean, rice-cake soup, steamed food, baked food, fried food, meat boiled on a skewer, pan-broiled food, slices of raw fish or meat, broth, beef with vegetables cooked in casserole, thin stew of vegetables and meat and etc".
Mine's flour food with rice gruel please, but how does one increase traditional dishes, eh?

recall from a previous DPRK bulletin that the zoo was a bit depleted on the animals front
I suspected this all along, and now we see in great detail where they've ended up !
(actually, it's the thin stew of vegetables for everyone - and that's on a good day)

Nick - I did some rooting around just now and it was a different zoo. Pyongyang Zoo sounds a pretty grim place, although apparently "it has a parrot which can squawk 'Long live the Great Leader, Comrade Kim Il-sung' in English". Now I know what I want for Christmas.

Thanks for the update. Although the Dear Leader is of course omnicompetent he has traditionally showed his soft side in the guidance he gives on veterinary medicine and animal welfare. I look forward to your thoughts on the promotion of puppet dramas in the DPRK, broadcast today.
Straying O/T, last night, no doubt galvanised by the Juche idea, I wrote a lipogram in honour of Gordon Brown (that is, an 'ncomium without making use of the the letter E). It's quite easy once you get the hang of it and perhaps others might like to try their hand?
If you are agreeable, I could post the result, although it is little more than a crude prototype. Probably Friday morning, when I am safely North of the 38th parallel... :-)

Tiresias - that would be most welcome. The puppet dramas are set to be the centre piece of this afternoon's spotlight on the DPRK.
