Late breaking conference news

Our man with his finger on the pulse of these things tells me that gay Tories were complaining furiously about Brum as they did not know the bar scene, whereas they knew Brighton, Blackpool and Bournemouth inside out.

One fellow was dischuffed at only finding a bar catering for ladies who like ladies, another was irked at only finding somewhere good five minutes shy of closing time and further moans noted the woeful lack of sleaze venues. On top of that, Stonewall let the side down by hosting a /dry/ lunchtime fringe event, thus making pulling a tad more of a struggle.

A little light googling would seem to suggest that the gents who prefer gents could have made better use of the internet as a resource prior to, or indeed post, arrival in Brum. Given that everyone - breeders and all - knows where the gay village is in Manchester, I trust that will be regarded as a good host city for 2009.

there are loads of gay bars and such in Bham. There used to be a gay night at one of the biggest nightclubs in the city wherein I spotted French and Saunders.

For a place the size of Birmingham it would be pretty scandalous if there wasn't a thriving scene.
