Lie back and think of Europe
Do the French, when they are not fretting about their health, spare the time to feel like citizens of Europe? Most do not:
I am faintly appalled that 31% did so on the 200th Anniversary of Bastille Day. The key thing I have found that might point to an upswing in Frenchitude in May '99 is the entry into force of the Amsterdam Treaty. The collapse of the Santer Commission and the bombing of Belgrade earlier in the might year might also have been factors.
