They do things diffferently in .... Japan
Competitive editing of Wikipedia pages has been thrust into the open of late, with eager minions toiling in the bowels of News Group, our own dear, dear Labour party, old Uncle Tom Cobbleigh and all doing their bit to censor information. Do a google news search for more of the same.
Anyway, over in the Land of the Rising Sun, an eager peon at the Imperial Household Agency has just received "a 'severe' verbal warning" for editing out a line in Wikipedia Japanese that was critical of the Agency. I would love to be able say that this was because the Agency values freedom of expression, is open to debate and so forth, but in near conclusive proof that no good deed goes unpunished, the wretch has been carpeted because "The use of computers for purposes other than administrative clerical work is banned". Source.
Sigh.....
