A small French update
What with the discussion of natutralised French words elsewhere, I thought it time for an update on the Sarko/Sego duel.
Both are currently on 33% for the first round of voting, with Le Pen on 11.5% and the rest nowhere.
Although the Gaullists have not settled on a candidate, Sarko has the Big Mo - 86% of Gaullists want Sarko, and 11% Michèle Alliot-Marie. Presumably the rest want to take another beating from Chirac. Time to fold your tente MA-M?
Elsewhere, yet another Enarque has emerged - Sylvie Goulard is the new head of the main French Europhile/Federast grouping, the Mouvement européen France. Assuming my source are correct, it seems a touch curious that a French MP is positioning herself as an anti-political candidate, reckoning as she does that 'politicians do not have the time to focus on the Movement'. Better still, in the wake of the 'non' vote on the constitution she considers that 'it us particularly important to make heard the voices of independent groups in Europe'. Erm, denial is not a river in Africa. Where do they find these people?

If my tranlation of le figaro is correct, it may well be line ball but policies might win in the end, i.e. Sarko.

Assuming we don't see a debacle like last time, then these two will go through to the 2nd round.
The 10+% that voted for Len Pen, will go to Sarko. The vote of the Judean Peoples Front, The Peoples front of Judea, The Real Judean Peoples Front and the others, will go to Sego.
Which of these will win out?

My money is, or soon will be, on Sarkozy.
