Those curious Canucks
I have discovered, to my utter horror, that there is a junior Trudeau, and he has political ambitions. Lengthy interview with him in the National Post here.
He sounds like a chip off the old block:
"Social change begins with the individual; being a teacher is being a lifelong learner; Canada should not have an environment ministry because every ministry should be environmental; civilization is at imminent risk of collapse; pharmaceutical firms (in which he is invested) need to "start doing not just the profitable thing, but the right and long-term profitable thing, and not be so tied into the short-term returns." And apparently he considers 'nationalism is based on smallness of thought'. I imagine he doesn't stand for 'O Canada' and doesn't give a hoot if Canada beats anyone at ice hockey.
It turns out that Brian Mulroney's boy has a public profile too. I know there are a fair few Indians in Canada, but this does all rather smack of the Nehrus/Gandhis. I'm struggling to think of British political dynasties beyond the Pitts, Churchills and Benns. Perhaps we should be grateful that the Thatcher and Major juniors, inter alia, have pursued othere careers, but the clever money says that at least one of the Blairlets will have a go at some point.
I think it would be remiss of me not to quote Al Capone at this stage: "I don't even know which street Canada is on".

The sons of Conservatives tend to go into business or the professions. The sons of socialists tend to want to stay on the public teat and boss other people around. Viz the son of that great leader Jimmy Carter. (I sincerely hope he didn't win in Nevada. That would be one gamble too far even for the high rollers in Vegas.) I think there are probably enough discontented lefties in Canada to give Trudeau fils a go.
The sleazy chip off the old block Euan will definitely go into politics. I have never seen a face more aglow with vapid self-adulation.

Yo!
Macmillan?
House lost. Wall St. happy - seems thay like "gridlock" (deadlock, surely) rather than Bushy splurging money in all directions.

Lovely to hear that the Carter kid lost. And by a nice margin, too!
Rigger, my cat could have done a better job than T Blair. For one thing, my cat is not hyperactive. I would prefer a politician who spends a lot of time indulging in light snoozing. For another thing, my cat is not interested in strength through diversity. No dogs get through the door or into the garden. End of story.

V - All very true. If Parliament was less active, it could do much less damage.
