A new contender for the most bizarre French survey yet.
French women and their attitudes to nudity and so on. As ever, I am *not* making this up.
Oddest finding of the lot: Is a woman wearing make up totally nude? 70% yes, 30% no. 18-24 year olds are the most likely to think that a spot of lipstick counts as clothing at 36%. Rather annoyingly, while age and regional cohorts are broken out in the data, voting preferences are not. Shame that. I'll just throw in the old Monroe quip here: "It's not true I had nothing on, I had the radio on".
57% of French women would be distressed by a woman sunbathing topless in her garden, while a rather appalling 16% are disturbed by public breast feeding. As are a quarter of under 35s. Hurrah for the sense of the over 65s, who are the least dérange at 9%. Some 4% would get a fit of the vapours if they saw Delacroix's 'La Liberté guidant le peuple'. The figure for 18-24s is double. Oh dear....
Moving swiftly on, some 44% of ladies from the South West want parity of ambient nakedness between men and women compared to 36% overall.
Laetitia Casta incarnates graceful nudity at 45% of responses, followed by Emmanuelle Béart at 33% and Mireille Darc (an actress now in her early seventies) at 13% . Feel free to do a google image search, I'm keeping this PG. A rather confused 2% opt for Pamela Anderson and 1% for Paris Hilton.
Some 9% of French women are happy to be naked - from time to time. or more often - in front of male friends. Before any male readers decide that they need to chum up with the nearest Frenchwoman, it is the 50-64s who are the most relaxed about this at 13%, followed by 12% of those 65+. Rather amusingly, it is the 18-24 year olds who are the most hung about their siggnificant others seeing them as nature intended - 8% will not let it happen.
South Easterners are keenest on sleeping in the buff at 80% to the 68% of North Easterners. Maybe climate is a factor.
Moving a little nearer the knuckle, 29% prefer the lights to be off when in the arms of a lover. As do 23% of Parisians and 34% of North Westerners.
Overall, 88% of French women deem themselves modest, and 1% very immodest. Ooh err. As are 3% of South Easterners and 4% of blue collar workers.
48% of French women like their bodies, although all bar five percentage points only manage 'somewhat'.
