A brief look at French Euro voting intentions

Some thoughtful organisation has polled the Gauls on voting intentions by euroconstituency, and the results are in.

The regions look like this (numbers represent seats):

And voting intentions look like this:

And if thopse figures are replicated at what the French, rather delightfully, call les urnes, seats would look like this:

Compared to 2004, that gives the Gaullists 24 seats, up from 17, the Socialists slide from 31 to 19 (pretty shocking given they are the main opposition) and the MoDem drift from eleven to eight. Out on what ought to be the fringe, the combined extreme left (Trots, Communists, Greens) go from nine to twelve, and the FN from seven to five. Libertas would secure one seat, down from the three De Villiers' MPF won in 2004. Note, however, that France has fewer seats this time than last.

I see you correctly identify les pseudo-Verts as extreme-gauche. Very irritating to see the way Caro Lynch is treated as being genuinely green when most of her policies are just loony left, Wedgie Benn stuff (especially in a re-ces-sion).

I fight a constant battle to persuade the woefuly naive that the Greens are out there with the Trots (and make common cause with them sometimes) rather than being the cast of The Good Life seeking office.

Hence the reason environmentalists are often compared to Watermelons:

Green on the outside, Red on the inside.

CG - I'll be using that. Thank you.
