So much for French Obamamania
France may well have had three Jewish prime ministers and at least two Protestant PMs, but they do not seem ready for an ethnic minority President:
- Would you vote for a black candidate in the presidential election?
Yes (Certainly, probably) - 80%. No (Certainly not, probably not) 20%
- Would you vote for an Asian candidate in the presidential election?
Yes (Certainly, probably) - 72%. No (Certainly not, probably not) 28%
- Would you vote for a North African candidate in the presidential election?
Yes (Certainly, probably) - 58%. No (Certainly not, probably not) 42%
Among the more telling details are that 26% of Communists / Trots etc would not vote for a Maghrebi, neither would 24% of Socialists nor 17% of Greens. So much for Fraternité.... A rather confused 17% of FN supporters would, however.
Anyway, Rachida Dati, Mayor of Paris's 7th should probably not bother with a tilt at the presidency, as 56% of UMP voters have a problem with Maghrebis, as do 43% of Parisians.

Ha ! Well pointed out ... 'French Obamamania' indeed ! I shall look forward to throwing the remote at the TV the next time the BBC mention it.
