Pyongyang - an irony-free zone?

Having recently stumbled upon the KOREAN CENTRAL NEWS AGENCY of DPRK (It is them shouting, not me), here is a really good one:

"The government of the DPRK will as ever further strengthen and develop the Korean-style socialist system and positively contribute to the international efforts for the protection and improvement of human rights. A delegate of the DPRK declared this when discussing the item "protection and improvement of human rights" at the meeting of the 3rd Committee of the 63rd UN General Assembly on Oct. 29".

There is much that is googleable on the 'DPRK', but this summary of a report by Havel, Wiesel and Kjell Magne Bondevik will do for now:

"The report makes the argument that North Korea is in breach of meeting its international obligations as a state party to the main human rights protocols of the UN system, and is committing crimes against humanity
".

Meanwhile, the KCNA further notes:

"The U.S. imperialists are contemplating deploying in Guam ultra-modern war hardware such as refueling tanker, strategic bombers and latest-type unmanned high-altitude reconnaissance planes to cope with "contingency" on the Korean Peninsula. This move is part of the U.S. imperialists' policy of aggression towards the DPRK aimed to mount a surprise preemptive attack on it any time".

In flight re-fueling has been around since the '40s, and strategic bombers for the thick end of a century.

While the KCNA uses the Juche calendar in its texts, the web addresses use a more conventional
date format. Anyone wishing to confuse teachers, bosses, underlings, friends, relatives, debtors etc can subtract 1911 from the current date for a Juche year. Hence, it is now Juche 97.
