What does $4.3bn buy you?
Not much affection from Bangladesh. US "food and development assistance" to the country totals some $4.3 billion to date, and Uncle Sam imports some $2.5 bn and exports about $333 m to it.
And why is this of any particular significance now? Well, a Pew Global survey has *93%* of Bangladeshis concerned or very concerned that the US could become a military threat to it. The Moroccans, another recipient of substantial US aid (and Peace Corps volunteers too) is only marginally less paranoid at 92%.
At the other end of the scale, a shade under two thirds of Kuwaitis polled have the same attitude. The Egyptians show the greatest insouciance with 33% not too / not at all worried (maybe they fancy their chances against the Sixth Fleet) and 65% concerned / very concerned.

I think it's a bit silly of the Kuwaitis to be so anti-American - but then again we suffer the same mass stupidity here too.
