Japanese spying and the like
The National Archives have just released files on our assessments of what the Japanese were up to in these parts in the 30s and 40s, and includes this gem:
"Every Japanese has a quite childish delight in spying. If he is not doing it under orders or because he is merely expected to do it by the local Japanese club or association, he is spying for the fun of spying; they are all enthusiastic amateurs. Spying is in fact a part of the Japanese character. A Japanese who is not addicted to spying is not a typical Japanese. And so the conclusion that every Japanese is a potential, if not an actual spy, is, therefore, not surprising".
I expect the Japanese secret services have an awesome collection of photographs of Buck House, the Palace of Westminster and Beatrix Potter country....
