Germans told to stay at home
A Green politician in Berlin has called on her compatriots to holiday in Germany rather than flying off to the sun, and has been echoed by mainstream politicians from the SPD and the CSU. Going just that little bit further, someone from Greenpeace has made this remarkably dramatic statement: "Cheap flights should be banned". I wonder what counts as cheap.... Doubtless our home grown equivalents will be urging us to do the same, but if by shunning Blackpool and Skegness I can also avoid sand castle building Porrits and Monbiots, all the better

Where we stayed in Turkey a couple of years back, they even put towels on the restaurant tables up to an hour before lunch was served, so that they didn't lose out in the midday rush...
Needless to say, we didn't lower ourselves to their level, and ended up dragging scattered chairs halfway across the terrace out of the blazing sun and perching our plates on our laps through politeness and a determination to maintain certain standards. And consequently feeling MIGHTILY superior.

Okay, I don't think there's much we can do about this Global warming. According to the woman in my office Anja, she's German, apparently the whole of Southern England is going to be under water in fifty years.

Northern Europeans and the British really are the most officious people in the world. If something offends them, they campaign to get it banned so others can't enjoy that which offends them. It really is repulsive.

JHL has been mouthing off with his legal opinions over on Iain's 'Levy named in cash for honours memo' thread. I do not know why Iain tolerates this lowlife on his blog.

"They" (the British) campaign to get things banned. Unlike in dictatorships, obv.
I'm not currently campaining to ban anything.
Anyway, the airline industry is far stronger than the Greens.

No it isn`t it is highly competititve and with very free entry to the market. There is no cartel and it has little political power.
The stark truth is they want to make travel for the rich and that will negate all the progress that capitalsim has brought for everyone .
It worries me because it is yet another underclass producing set of policies.

"The airlines have little political power."
Such naivety. The airlines are expanding. The (red-)Greens have no MPs. Most/all MPs fly frequently.
"Capitalsim (sic) benefits us all." The trickle-down theory. So why is London getting dirtier, more crowded, more expensive (see Economist)?
