Political etc cliches and weasel words.
Barbara commented on the JPost thread thus:
Agree about militant- and yes, the terrorist/freedomfighter thing is a bit of a tired old cliche. I wonder if there are any other misused words or phases which are a siren call to our inner Victor Meldrews? I find "hard working families" incredibly irritating.
Nominations, please. Broon's use of 'investment' for public spending really gets my goat.

'investment' in public services isa clear winner.

'compassionate conservatism'-hadn't realised we weren't before
'consensus politics'--ehhh!
'end punch and judy politics'--ehhh!
'playing the race card'--arguably the most contentious phrase, ineptly overused by many on the left even when wuite clearly race is not an issue.
Finally, anything that comes from the mouth of David Blunkett

"Islamophobic" used as a plug on free speech.
"Institutionised" as in "racism", "religious hatred" blah blah blah.
"the decent majority" or any other drooling, vapid phrase issuing from the vocal cords of Anthony Lynton Blair, a walking cliché in his own right.

Much nodding in agreement here...
Tieing this together with the traffic regulation thread, does anyone outside politics / the media ever refer to 'motorists'?
