A date for everyone's diary

16th September.

And for why?

Because it is, as the UN assures us, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

Surely no-one was unaware?

It is also Papua New Guinea Independence Day and Malaysia Day, so let the preparations commence. No party poppers though, natch.

Malaysia Independence Day is 31 August and has just been celebrated nationwide. 16th Sept is the date that Sabah and Sarawak (now East Malaysia) joined Peninsular Malaya to form what is now Malaysia.

The perils of reliance on Wikipedia. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

As a sidetrack, I know a song that references L.A with the line 'the only city with initials for a name' and on first hearing it thought 'what about KL?'. True story.

What are we supposed to do on the 16th?

Can't we just celebrate Battle of Britain Day for another 24 hours instead?
