How others see us...

US operation Trip Advisor has polled its users on European destinations and has come up with some curious findings:

Paris - Favourite city, most romatic, top for culture, but also the most over-rated and the unfriendliest.

The Great Wen - Second favourite, top for shopping and night life and the most family friendly. Crikey...

Auld Reekie - Joint most under-rated along with Prague.

Prague - Home of the bargain.

Dublin - Friendliest.

Rome - Best looking locals.

Germans - most annoying travellers followed by us and the Gauls.

Italy - Best food, followed by France and Spain.

Pretty sound that I prefer London to Paris really. Its far more lively and there something inadequate about the Seine when you are used to a proper old Brown God ( TS Elliot ).
I remember thinking when I got back from Paris last in a Whistleresque mist.." Now this is a place....."

Dew if you happen to pop in I noticed you claiming that my essais are funnier that the spoof Guadian PE bit .
They were almost certainly intended seriously you rotter.

Italisn me look cool ,I don`t think Italian-ness suits women so much though

No shopping bargains here, though I suppose food, drink and accommodation are cheap.

Please forgive my rudely being O/T, but does anyone know if it is now Iain's policy that one has to register with Google in order to post on his site?

A notice comes up that anonymous comments aren't allowed, which is fine. I think we all find them irritating and impossible to respond to.

But there is now no option for Other. You have to register with Google in order to post. I won't register with Google because they already collect far too much information and, given their sleazy dealings with China, I don't trust them.

I'm hoping it was just a mistake on my computer, but I do realise that Iain has been becoming increasingly frustrated with all these hundreds of anonymouses who are too lazy to think up a nickname.

I've written to Iain. Does anyone know anything about this?

Verity,

I can't say I blame Iain for wanting to do something about the torrent of defamatory, irrelvant and obscene (and often all three..) posts he has been getting, but it is rather unfortunate that it has come to this. I will seek further and better particulars.

Thanks, Croydonian. I wrote to you as a denizen of 18 Doughty Street, and knowing that all of the people who post with you also post over on Iain's and I thought you might know something.

I certainly do not blame Iain for banning the infestations of anonymouses. They're horrible. It shouldn't be beyond the wit of posters to think up a nickname for themselves. And so many of them are vicious and obscene.

But can't a blog owner just eliminate the Anonymous option and offer a choice of a Google registered name or Other?

The paper at the weekend was discussing property in Paris. It featured a flat on the Ile St Louis. It was, it said, near the river.

N - it is indeed a sad bugger who needs to pay for his women in Prague. When are you coming over again? ;-)

Best looking locals? They obviously haven't come to the city I live in. Vogue models everywhere incommoding one on the footpath and in the bed.
