The joys of being UN Secretary General
I have long tended to think that anyone who wants to be UN Secretary General probably deserves the grimness that goes with the territory, but I do not think Ban Ki-moon deserved a trip to Longyearbyen:
"It is even much, much colder than in the Arctic! I am frozen. The temperature is -15°!
It is a great experience and a unique opportunity for me to visit the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. It is a great privilege for me and thanks to my gracious Norwegian host, Minister [for Agriculture and Food Lars Peder] Brekk, for the tour of this one-of-a-kind structure built deep in the Arctic permafrost".
BKM is no more useless than the average UN bod, so I do feel rather sorry for him. Doubtless flights from NYC to Svalbard are not exactly hourly occurences either.
