And for why? Because of this utterly, utterly depressing poll by the Berliner Zeituing, (English precis here) asking the Plain People of Germany what they reckoned to the consequences of German reunification. Just 46% of Ossis and 40% of Wessis think that their personal circumstances have improved since the Wall came down, with 28% and 27% respectively considering that things have worsened. Some 39% of Ossis think that they have profited from reunification. To adapt Brecht, maybe Merkel should sack the German people and elect a new one, given that free speech, democracy and all of those 'fluffy' things seem so unimportant.

Is there no country which still worries about the important stuff or has all mankind been "bought and sold" for Russian gas and Chinese tellies?
BE - you have to wonder, don't you? Mind you, there are plenty of people who would end the Union because it would save England money. For shame, I say.

There is so. Google it. Way back lost in the mists of time, I took my spelling of the great man's name from the battleship in the Airfix catalogue where there was no 'c', and I got red-lined for spelling it thus in an O level history essay.
