Are you one of the one in six?

Or, more accurately, one of the one in 5.8823 etc Britons who when asked 'Personally, do you wish for the capitalist system to be reformed?' answered 'it does not need to be'.

As is so often the case, I am indebted to French pollsters for asking this question here as well as in France, Germany, Spain and Sweden. The Swedes are the most sound, with 23% wanting it left alone, but an appalling 14% (mouth breathers, every last one of them) unable to muster an opinion. At the other extremity, 53% of Gauls want reform in depth, and 38% reform in the detail. 5% go along with laissez-faire. French company bosses answered 31% to in depth, 61% to detail and 7% want to be left alone. La Trahison des Gens D'Affaires, perhaps?

Elsewhere, one in five of my co-nationals consider the state interferes with the economy too much. A rather frightening 59% of Gauls and 58% of Germans think their governments do not interfere enough. Even with the strategic importance of yogurt...

Further into the findings, folk were asked in whom they had confidence they would improve society. In these parts the government led, followed by teachers, and thirdly ourselves. A mixed picture then. Germans had greatest confidence in citizen associations and Swedes in scientists. Odd. The French point the finger at themselves, then scientists and citizen associations .

I'm one of the people who think the system we have now isn't very capitalist, and should be more so.

Me too, actually, but 'leave it alone' was the nearest possible response.
