The EU wine lake
I was tempted to do a full scale post on this, but lack the energy so will content myself with this:
"The EU spends around half a billion euros every year just getting rid of surplus wine for which there is no market".
Or in sterling, £347,597,003.00.

Erm - how do they get rid of it?

I would have thought pouring it down the drain would be fairly quick and easy. I will investigate.
Maybe they should give some of it to the petitioner mentioned earlier...

May I selflessly and heroically offer to help in the disposal process?
I'm sure there was something in this new EU Constitution which forces us to be nice helpful "Europeans" so I'd like to volunteer this as my contribution to Euro-harmony.

I bought some of the stuff that squeeked through, at a Liddl-like supermarché for about 0.90 euro. I got my money's worth.

Don't they pay the vinegar industry to take it off their hands?
It's all because the French refuse to allow their industry to become more efficient and market driven.

The obscenity which is the EU is simply grotesque in its bloatedness.

having read on the destruction of the Australian wine industry by drought perhaps next year we can get the bill down a bit.
Alternatively we could sell it to the Californians to put out their fires. The EU has never been any good at commercial thinking though....
