Is Las Vegas America's Macau?

The Sydney Morning Herald has a bit of a jaw dropper: revenues from gambling, mainly baccarat, in Macau (all 10.9 square miles of it) exceeded those of Las Vegas for the first time this year.

The small print shows that the comparison is between the Vegas strip and Macau, rather than Vegas in its entirety, but pretty astonishing nevertheless.

I've never understood the Chinese thing with gambling _ it seems so at odds with the work ethic/ family values stuff.
(N, say the word and I'll get JH to pop over and plump your pillows!)

Macau is pretty awesome. I hope to get thre later this year and will report back.

Even the apartments there compete with Chelsea on the cost front these days.

The ferry from the mainland now runs 24 hours too.
