The company Livingstone keeps
My MP (and MLA, come to that) Andrew Pelling, has done some stout work in revealing that a bun fight involving Livingstone, CND and the soi-disante 'Stop the War Coalition' in December cost £5,637.10 for holding the event, £4,162.10 on food and drink, and the waiving of a £5,727 room hire charge. Rather generously, Pelling notes “I am sure that many Londoners will support the work of CND and Stop the War Coalition, however all Londoners will object to their hard earned money being used to support a pressure group that should be funded by its own members".
So, let's examine the leadership of these two organisations:
The head of CND, Kathryn Hudson, is a member of the Communist Party of Britain (the one based in Croydon....) . I have been unable to track down names of other current senior figures in CND.
As to the STWC, it is headed by Tony Benn, about whom no more need be said.
And its vice presidents:
George Galloway...
Alice Mahon, a former Labour MP who considers that the '99 Nato bombing of Serbia 'had deliberately been aimed at civilian targets'.
Tam Dalyell...
Tariq Ali - One time member of the Trotskyite International Marxist Group.
Caroline Lucas - a 'Green' MEP
Keith Sonnet of Unison - who is regularly quoted in the far left press.
Louise Christian - Candidate for the SWP dominated Socialist Alliance.
Katy Clark - The only member of the Socialist Campign Group under 50.
The STWC's officers include:
Lindsey German - member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers' Party.
Jon Rees - member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers' Party.
Chris Nineham - member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers' Party.
Also Kathryn Hudson, so that's four out 11 I have pinned down as linked to the extreme left. There may well be others.
Meanwhile, anyone fancy starting a Committee to Continue the War, in the hope that we might benefit from Livingstone's, or rather the London tax payers', largesse?

Am I being naive?
Why does the stop the war coalition focus on US & UK troops. After all, we are ready to stop the war at any moment, as long as the other side does.
Shouldn't they focus their attention on the other side?

An entirely reasonable point. Then again, CND et al did not do much protesting against SS20s and the like either.

I find it absolutely breathtaking that this largesse (of public money) is taking place so overtly with seemingly no scrutiny or consequences.
There must be something in the Mayor's terms of reference that prevent him from doling out money to his friends like this?
What next? £10,000 on Fidel's Filly in the 4.45 at Wincanton? Why aren't Londoners up in arms about it and where the hell is the media?

Tony, the details on the london.gov.uk site are remarkably vague, but I cannot see anything empowering Livingstone to have a foreign policy or a defence policy on behalf of London.

No doubt when Mr Mania becomes our glorious leader he will be a model of financial prudence and moral rectitude?
Funnily enough I imagine him spending 5 years snorting coke off the tits of Ukrainian hookers , quaffing champagne by the bucketful with selected friends all at public expense, abolishing all speed limits and handing handguns out to all school children.
That's why he has my vote

..have you been reading my manifesto ?

Which could, perhaps, be entitled, 'A better deal for Newmania *and* his mates. Buying him a drink now would be a career move'.

At least Coke, Prostitutes and Champagne would be a proper misuse of funds. I mean how sad do you have to be to miss use them in the manner of Mr Livingstone.
