Another broadcasting scandal strangled before birth

From Ha'aretz:

"The production company Endemol, producer of the "Celebrity Big Brother" TV reality show, asked Holocaust-denier David Irving to be a contestant on the show, the London-based Jewish Chronicle reported Thursday.

Endemol, whose producers said their offer to Irving was not seriously considered, met with him for 90 minutes, but it was decided not to have him on the show".

Hmm, a 90 minute meeting and they weren't serious.

What's wrong with having him on the show? It's a free country and anyone who stands up for freedom of speech wouldn't have a problem with him - apart from the fact that he's an idiot, naturally.

I am a free speech absolutist, but it is pretty clear that Endemol had a clear agenda of causing a rumpus in pursuit of ad revenue, rather than out of any love of free expression.

Quite. They have a right to have him on the show, and he has a right to appear. That doesn't mean that it wouldn't be a scandal if he did, because it would have meant giving hours of free publicity to a fraudulent Jew-hating wanker.
