The wit of David Taylor, MP for NW Leics

From Hansard:

David Taylor (North-West Leicestershire) (Lab/Co-op): Will the Minister care to deny the scurrilous rumours that, to encourage the people of Essex to be more involved, it is intended that the sports of putting the medallion and throwing the white high heels should be included?

Tessa Jowell: I completely, utterly and comprehensively do not recognise an Olympic event there.

Oh please, gaffer tape for my split sides. I hope that that quote will be useful for Tory candidates in Essex come The Reckoning.

This would have been nicked in a nanosecond for my blog but a boozy lunch intervened and Dizzy was quicker out of the blocks.

An excellent spot.

Boozy lunches are a better use of one's time even than blogging, and I had IM'd the tale to Phil in the course of a conversation.

Despite my nom de blog, I grew up in Essex (2-18) and have a soft spot for the place, and thus will not put up with East Midlanders - or anyone else, come to that - making mock of the place.
