Keith Vaz doesn't have any mates

Or at least none who could be prevailed upon to sign this toe curler of an EDM:

"That this House welcomes the change of name of Nottingham East Midlands Airport to East Midlands Airport - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby; believes the airport will be a conduit for continued growth and investment; and notes that Leicester East Midlands Airport would be an even more fitting name given Leicester's position as hub of the Midlands".

Never mind that EMA is in Derbyshire, and nearer to both Nottingham and Derby than Leicester. Still, let us rejoice that he only a backbencher these days, and moreover has a below average attendance record.

And this is my 800th post.

Whoops. I was misled by the Derby as the post town / code. It looks to be in Leics after all.

In MY face, eh? Still, when 'mania shows up to scoff and jeer it will be old news.

Vaz remains a prat. The airport is closer to Nottingham and Derby than Leicester - I'm saying this without checking any maps, but I'm pretty confident I'm right.

Blogger Croydonian said... 10:41 pm

It is indeed. I checked it on route finder.

PT
If you do actually get a map out and check , please note that will very firmly place yourself into the category of "unwell"

Derby - EMA 14.9 miles
Leics - EMA 18.6 miles
Notts - EMA 14.1 miles.

it may well be nearer to nottingham but it's not in notts.the only reason they changed the name was cos of BMI saying it harmed their marketing.

in 2004 in the leicester south by election, the raving loony,R U Serious stood on a platform of renaming nottingham castle ,leicester castle, because they'd nicked the airport.whilst this message received considerabled support at the time

http://politics.guardian.co.uk/hoc/constituency/0,,-1074,00.html

it has since faded as a political message but people in the east midlands, like myself, feel aggrieved that people-principally BMI-fuckers,a budget airline at a BA price-seem to think the rest of the region doesn't exist until they need to screw us for a second run way!!!

sorry Ma C but they are robbing bastards and no words can describe how much I hate them for telling the people of derby/leicester and everywhere in between to fuck off.

Rigger - you warned me, and I didn't listen. Apologies for cranking up your blood pressure.

Blogger Rigger Mortice said... 12:18 am

congratulations on your 800th post by the way

apparently, according to sources in the EU Parliament, the East midlands is one of the most inward looking regions in the UK,

I can believe it.

Can't say I know the East Mids at all beyond two nights in Leicester about 15 years back.

I was working on a scheme to persuade all of my mates to move to Lincs on the grounds of comparatively cheap property prices a few years back, as much of what makes anywhere a good place to live is the proximity of friends. No one else was tempted, alas. Otherwise I might be Bostonian, or Stamfordian or somesuch.

I have had one night out in Nottingham (it was shit)
This was forced on me during a 4 day corporate tour the country Christmas piss up, York, Nottingham, Manchester and Newcastle.
Our Nottingham host was the spitting image of that Malteser headed twat Howard from the Halifax adverts.
Malteser head arranged a champagne reception on the top floor of Nottinghams equivalent of a ten storey Travel lodge before whisking us off to dinner at TGI fridays in the wankiest collection of "limos" that you can imagine, style or what?
Cunt even played a piano and sung to us to make the evening even worse.
Thank fuck this was in my drug taking days, made the evening pass a lot quicker.
What the fuck has all that got to do with Keith Vaz?
Im going to bed to read Peter Kays autobiography.

PHitch - that was laugh-out-loud funny.

I lived in Grantham (Birth Place of Mrs T PBUH) for a while but I don't like to talk about it.
