Le Pen, the EU and Israel

Le Pen's daughter, Marine, is an MEP, and had been hoping to be part of a parliamentary delegation to Israel to discuss the Lebabon war, mooch around the Middle East etc etc. However, the Israelis have decided that any delegation including Le Pen jr will not be getting the red carpet treatment, and therefore the junket fact finding mission has been 'adjourned'. More details here, care of Le Figaro.

A bit of digging suggests that Ms Le Pen is not quite as poujadiste as the old thug himself, at least in terms of what she says. An interview in the Jerusalem Report last year saw her saying this "As far as I am concerned, anti-Semitism and racism are totally foreign to me" and previously she has condemned the words of the other main contender for the leadership of the Front, Bruno Gollnisch, who if not exactly a Shoah denier, then certainly is a Shoah diminisher. And curiously enough a professor of Japanese civilization. If the Israeli foreign ministry relents (which I very much doubt), MLP would not be the first Le Pen to meet Israeli military figures, as her father served with the paratroops during the '56 war.

I think this tale rates as a royal flush, doesn't it? Bringing together all of my hobby horses bar Gordon Brown...

Talking of getting the cold shoulder Croydonian it seems that Verity has decided to avoid this place like the plague.

Blogger Croydonian said... 1:06 pm

I hope not, it would all be rather duller without her.

Read her comments at Iain dale (under the wayne and waynetta rooney photo)

Blogger Croydonian said... 1:20 pm

Oh well. We had been e-mailing yesterday, and she hadn't mentioned anything that was vexing her.

'been to Dale's blog. Verity does seem to have been offended by something.
I am not sure if Gollnisch is still at the University of Lyons. I thought his comments about the Shoah some time ago had landed him in considerable difficulty at the university.

You are right. I checked and found that she said: "I have already left Croydonian because we already have enough mosquitoes where I live."

I don't think that she considers our intelligent host to be a mosquito. Hence, she obviously doesn't like some of the comments. I am wondering whether I am one of the mosquitoes.

Verity is very welcome to post here, and can we leave it at that, please?

There's a huge mosquitoe flying around my living room at the minute. I can't seem to swat the bugger. and I suffer from an allergy to mosquito bites.

For those of you with enough good sense not to smoke (mozzies hate it), there is an Avon skin cream that repels insects like garlic does vampires, or so I read somewhere a while back. And no, I'm not one of their reps.

Nevertheless, I feel somewhat guilty that my discussion with her about cognitive dissonance and the veil might be responsible for her departure. Similarily, your other friend, Praguetory, said "Cheers" and never returned after I disagreed with him on something I can't even remember.

Croydonian, I do not want to drive away your best friends, thereby harming your intellectually exciting blog. Therefore, I will continue to enjoy reading your posting but will refrain from commenting anything hoping that your friends will return.

Colin - Please continue to post. Your contributions are welcome, insighful and thoughtful. My pal PragueT has posted today, so have no fear that he has abandoned the place.
