That Brown press conference
It is not up at the 10 Downing Street site yet, but it put me in mind of this quote by Macauley, which I first discovered some years back and saving me typing it out or cranking up the scanner, it has been made available by the Liberty Fund:
"A man who has never been within the tropics does not know what a thunderstorm means; a man who has never looked on Niagara has but a faint idea of a cataract; and he who has not read Barère’s Memoirs may be said not to know what it is to lie".
"A man who has never been within the tropics does not know what a thunderstorm means; a man who has never looked on Niagara has but a faint idea of a cataract; and he who has not read Barère’s Memoirs may be said not to know what it is to lie".
Lovely stuff
